The Executive Director of Uganda National Bureau of Standards David Ebiru has been handed to the parliamentary CID police for interrogation after confessing to having bribed the bureau board members of 100m.

The alleged bribe was in protection to his job after a report from the Inspector General of Government-IGG recommending Ebiru’s sacking from the Bureau due to no qualifications and incompetence.

Ebiru while appearing before the Parliamentary committee on COSASE chaired by Joel Ssenyonyi also Nakawa west MP, revealed that he borrowed 100m and hand cashed it to one of the board members Robert Mwanje on behalf of the board chairperson Charles Musekura.

However, during the exchange in the committee, the claimed recipient of the 100m denied receiving it from ED Ebiru which lead to the ruling from the chairperson Ssenyonyi to direct CID officers to further interrogate the bribe case for criminal charges and prosecution to start.

Meanwhile, the same ED has been faulted for failing to take action against the Bureau Staff who sniffled over 19bn as a bribe from traders to allow them to import fake goods on the Uganda market without standard inspection and instead transferred them to other working stations.
