Uganda Martyrs Uganda-UMU has marked 30 years of existence at its 29th graduation ceremony held at their main campus at Nkozi in Mpigi district.

The celebration has been graced by the Chancellor who is also the Chairman Uganda Episcopal Conference, Rt. Rev. Joseph Antony Zziwa, and the University Patron Archbishop Paul Ssemogerere among other clergy plus Norbert Mao, the Minister of Justice and Constitutional Affairs who was the chief guest.

The 30 years of cerebration of the University has also seen the graduation of the 26 pioneer students of bachelors of Law as well as blessing and commissioning of the two storied block housing the Faculty of Law.

The Minister of Justice and Constitutional Affairs Norbert Mao in his speech congratulated the university of leading by example despite the meager resources as a private university within two years it has been able to put up a fully-fledged faculty of law due to dedication, hard work and transparence which is lacking even in national projects.

Mao emphasized the need for institutions of higher learning to commit graduates who are ready to cause change for all. He says university has to champion research, innovation that is ready to transform society and if Uganda would tap into that initiative its road to growth and development will be smooth.

Mao said change and continuity especially about leadership is missed in Uganda let UMU teach peaceful handover like the previous vice chancellors 3 all present at the university’s 30 year’s celebration.

The Vice Chancellor Prof. Patrick Kyamanywa has used the occasion to credit the late Archbishop Joseph Kiwanuka who envisioned the start of a Catholic university in 1955 only to be realized in 1993.

He reaffirmed their resolve to producing graduates ready to transform society besides professional skills, moral ethics which is highly desired in Uganda today.
