The Uganda Manufacturers Association (UMA) in conjunction with the embassy of Turkey in Uganda have organised an Eight day industrial tour to Turkey for Uganda’s manufacturers from 12th-19th October 2023.

 

The industrial tour seeks to create markets for raw materials and machinery, foster investment partnerships build business contacts and boost experience sharing.

 

Speaking at the flagging off meeting at UMA head office the UMA board chairman Deo Kayemba emphasised the need to forge such partnerships with international players in an effort to create a market for local products.

 

The industrial tour to Turkey comprises of 25 members from UMA and Uganda chamber of commerce and industry and they will be  able to comprehensively understand turkeys industrial sector in areas of steel, energy ,food processing ,textile among others.

 

In 2021 Uganda ‘s exports to turkey stood at us dollar 11.7m and  the key commodities exported include coffee ,tea, tobacco and fruits while Turkish’s exports to Uganda  stood at  US dollars 53.1m in commodities such as machinery ,electronic products and home appliances and textiles.

 

Chairman Kayemba says that this growing trade trajectory shows a promising economic partnership that has grown steadily from only US dollars 722 in 1995 to US dollars 11.7m in 2021 marking an annual increasing rate of 11.3%.
