The opposition National Economic Empowerment Dialogue (NEED) has backed Kenya’s opposition Leader Raila Odinga for having accepted peace talks with the Kenyan government to solve their crisis.

This comes after Kenya’s President William Ruto and opposition leader Raila Odinga agreed to hold bipartisan talks through Parliament to resolve issues raised through weekly protests that have turned violent.

Addressing the nation for the first time after opposition protests began two weeks ago, Ruto said he is ready to engage with the opposition on how to reconstitute and appoint new members of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).

After Ruto’s appeal, Raila called off the anti-government protests that were scheduled for Monday and Thursday of this week, adding that he too was ready for negotiations.

During the party’s weekly press conference at Rubaga, Moses Matovu, the NEED Spokesperson said that they are happy for the talks between the government and the opposition because Kenya’s instability greatly affects Uganda’s business sector.

Matovu adds that this shows that leaders in Kenya love their country and called upon Uganda to borrow a leaf for the better Uganda everyone wants.
