The opposition Forum for Democratic Change has tasked parliament to hold the government accountable on troops deployed in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

On Wednesday last week, Uganda deployed at least 1000 troops in the Eastern DRC under the East African Community Regional Forces command structure to back up the regional political efforts to stabilize the war torn area, specifically Goma.

While speaking to the press at the FDC Deputy Spokesperson, John Kikonyogo noted that parliament should explain to Ugandans about the benefits the country gains from these deployments in Congo.

Kikonyogo further reminded Ugandans on how President Yoweri Museveni and some senior UPDF officers were taken to the International Court of Justice for illegally taking DRC resources between 1997/ 98, which left the country slapped with a fine of USD 325m paid to Congo.

Kikonyogo also questioned why the country spent Shs90bn on Operation Shuuja that he feels was never sanctioned by parliament which has no clear benefits to Ugandans.

He thus advised that incase of any deployment to Congo, its DRC government should pay Ugandan troops to keep peace in their country rather than helping them without any gain.
