Government has threatened to dismiss the new incoming refugees back to their countries due to limited resources.

This has been revealed by the minister for Relief, Disaster preparedness and Refugees Hillay Onek at the launch of the refugee response plan 2022-25 in Kampala noting that it’s hectic to take care of refugees in the current environment.

He says that government requires 500m US dollars per annum to maintain the wellbeing of these refugees.

Onek adds that they are planning to have negotiations with East African member states to take care of their citizens in these refugees camps since majority come from East Africa.

Currently Uganda hosts nearly 1.4 m refugees from East African countries and close to 200,000 refugees from other countries outside East Africa.
