President Museveni has launched Uganda’s first ICT manufacturing and assembling plant in Namanve just after government signed an agreement with SIMI technologies to promote the manufacturing of ICT electronics in Uganda.

At full capacity, the factory will run three production lines; each line with daily production of 2000 feature phones, 1500 smart phones, 800 laptops, 2000 chargers, 4000 USB cables and 4000 sets of earphones and directly employing more than 400 staff.

President Museveni applauded the Chinese for their solidarity with Uganda and Africa and specifically Chinese are aiding Uganda’s economic growth of at least $35 billion in GDP adding that with such achievements he is getting tougher on corruption especially among public servants.

With availability of electricity, government is ready to solve the problem of transport costs as well. This follows a promise to have Kayoola Electric Buses soon on the road.

The minister for investment Evelyn Anite said A phone will cost only Shs20, 000 and in the interest of supporting the company there will be a reduction on the importation of mobile phones.
