The Federation of Uganda Football Association (FUFA) has confirmed that the African Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier game for the national football team, the Uganda Cranes against Algeria will be played in Cameroon due to the unfinished works at the Namboole Stadium.

Namboole is under renovation and unfortunately couldn’t beat the deadline which means Uganda had to opt for another away ground in the forthcoming qualification window in June.

Moses Magogo, the FUFA President says that the refurbishment project has been slow and insensitive to the cries of the public to be able to host the matches in Uganda.

It should be remembered that the State Minister for Sports Peter Ogwang promised Ugandans that Namboole will be able to host the next match at Namboole stadium.

Last month, Uganda hosted Tanzania from Ismailia, Egypt while Algeria will be hosted in Cameroon on June 12th in a group F of the 2023 AFCON Qualifier.

Meanwhile, the State Minister of Sports Peter Ogwang has apologized to Ugandan football fans for failing to fulfill his promise of completing Mandela National Stadium in time for the Cranes match against Algeria.

Uganda is currently tied up with East African neighbors Tanzania on four points in Group F that is led by Algeria. The Cranes will need to maximize points in their final two Qualification games to secure a place in the continental showpiece.
