In efforts to address unemployment among the youth especially the educated young people in the country, the Uganda Development Bank Ltd –UDB has launched its 2nd cohort of the Graduate Apprenticeship Program- GAP that will provide hands-on skills development and job opportunities to promising professionals.

In this program UDB gives chance to under 30 years graduates with 1st class and second class upper degrees in specific fields of study such as engineering, mechanical, data management, science and physic, statistics and quantitative economics other related fields.

 

They have to undergo a one year internship course and the best trainees are retained for employment according to UDB.

 

The UDB Director Strategy and Corporate Affairs, Joshua Allan Mwesiga during a press conference at their offices at Rwenzori Towers in Kampala on Monday said that a number of graduates with 1st Class and 2nd Class upper degrees who are on the streets without jobs have propelled the bank to came out with this strategy to sharpen them for the job market.

Mwesiga adds that UDB recognizes that job creation is central to the national social-economic development process and core to the county’s transformation.

He has disclosed that in the 1stcohort, they retained four best graduates from different public and private universities and are now looking at eight graduates, who will excel in the training whose applications process ends on Septemebr 30th, 2022.

Meanwhile, Director said that GAP is one of te Bank’s response to developing its human capital and aims at creating sustainable, decent, and meaningful jobs for budding professional and alignment with government’s priority intervention stipulated in vision 2040 and NDPIII.
