The Ministry of Internal Affairs together with the Police is jointly hunting for two suspects who allegedly trafficked 14 Burundian nationals into the country.

Derek Basalirwa Kigenyi, the Deputy National Coordinator of Prevention of Human Trafficking in the Ministry of Internal Affairs says that the 14 victims were rescued from a farm in Kifampa Sub-County in Gomba district where they have been working after they run to police complained of not being paid for their labour.

Kigenyi says they established that the victims were trafficked in the country by two individuals who include Piyer Ndayisenga, a Burundian National and Shaban Sserungaya who is alleged to be a Ugandan national and a livestock dealer residing in Nakaseke.

The 14 victims were found with Airtel Sim cards registered in the names of Ugandan names which he said possess a security threat to the country as Kigenyi explains.

He explains that this was established after a meeting they had with leaders of Somalis living in Uganda at Kisenyi in Kampala Central where they were informed of human trafficking of their people to Libya.

Meanwhile, at least three South Sudan nationals from Elegu border in Amuru district are in Police custody for allegedly masterminding the trafficking of Somali Nationals from Uganda to Libya according to Kigenyi.
