Three people have died and eight others seriously injured following a fatal accident that occurred along the Mbale-Sironko road this morning.
The accident occurred around 11am on Wednesday in Namusi in Mbale City Northern City division.
The dead have been identified as Iddi Isko, a driver from Sironko, Ismail Muyindi, a conductor from Kaduwa village in Sironko, and Hakimu Magombe, a resident of Moon Ward in Mbale City Industrial division.
The trio were all passengers in Taxi number UBX 566B, which was traveling from Mbale city to Sironko.
Moses Mutabingwe, the Elgon region traffic police officer, says that the trio was killed when their taxi collided with a Pajero registration UBL 027E.
The Pajero was heading to Mbale town. Mutabingwe says that the driver of the Pajero, whose identity has not yet been established, fled the scene.
Some of the injured accident victims are receiving treatment at Mount Elgon Hospital, while others have been taken to Mbale Regional Referral Hospital.
The two accident vehicles are being held at the Northern City Division Central Police Station in Nakaloke.
