The Government Chief Whip Thomas Tayebwa has castigated the request by Greater North Region MPs of ring fencing the position of the Speaker of Parliament to the Northern region.

Yesterday, Members of Parliament-MPs from the Greater North comprised of Acholi, West Nile and Lango sub regions resolved that the National Resistance Movement-NRM caucus should either reserve the position of a speaker or deputy speaker to the people of Acholi.

Now, this Wednesday while addressing journalists at parliament, the Chief Whip Tayebwa said it’s unfortunate for the Mps to continue basing their lobbying on sectarianism and tribal tendencies.

He urged them to drop politics of secession that may lead to politics of doom if now every region demands ring fencing of positions.

Tayebwa who was heading for the NRM CEC meeting to Entebbe state house that is to be chaired by NRM chairperson Yoweri Museveni also called for consensus amongst the NRM contestants on the position of speakership.

When asked about the huge number of Ministers joining the race, he said that it shows how NRM has capable and willing leaders to serve the country.
