At least 9 people have been arrested over illegal demonstrations and inciting violence in Kampala.

 

Patrick Onyango, the Kampala Metropolitan Area police (KMP) Spokesperson confirms the arrest of 4 university students and 5 other people who were hired to cause commotion at the European Union- EU offices in Kampala.

 

Onyango says that the suspects didn’t inform the police about their demonstrations before which is illegal and disorganizes the businesses in the city.

 

He however, warned the general public against being used by people with sinister motives.

 

Before their arrest, the students expressed their support towards the EU’s decision to halt activities of oil and gas extraction in Uganda because they lack transparency.

 

Last week, a group of students from various schools marched around Kampala streets protesting the September 16 resolution by EU Parliament seeking to delay the development of the EACOP.

 

These students were mobilized by the Uganda National Students Association –UNSA and were guarded and guided by police as they held placards and chanted anti- EU slogans,
