Government has extended the period of eligible students to apply for study loans for the academic year 2021/2022 for 1 month and 2 weeks.

 

The government has set aside UGX 6 Billion meant for study loans to at least 1,600 needy students who want to pursue degree and diploma programmes that is 1,500 new cohorts of student loan beneficiaries and at least 100 continuing students in their final year of study

 

Addressing journalists at Uganda Media Centre in Kampala today, the executive Director of Higher Education Students Financing Board (HESFB), Michael Wanyama, said prospective beneficiaries now have up to 15th January 2022 to apply for the loans.

 

Wanyama adds that government had  set today 30th/November the last day for applying but some universities such Makerere,Gulu and Soroti among others and institutions have not been able to make it.

 

Wanyama, has also disclosed that students with disabilities and students from Karamoja region have been also added time to apply adding those universities and institutions who have been able to bit the deadline they are not give more time.

 

He has cautioned applicants over fraudsters masquerading as HESFB staffs to steal their funds.
