The Ministry of Education and Sports has warned schools against forcing parents to send their day schooling children to boarding section.

This has been revealed by Dr. Kedrace Turyagenda, the Director Education Standards at the ministry while addressing the journalists at the Uganda Media Centre in Kampala about a phased re-opening and running of education institutions under Covid-19 Standard Operating Procedures saying that, they have learnt that some schools have forced parents to send their children into boarding section which is illegal and unacceptable.

She adds that schools that have only one section are allowed to continue but those with both sections should operate the same way and not force parents into one way or the other and that they will be closed if caught.

Turyagenda also disclosed that, since they are reopening schools in a phased manner, the ministry will shortly announce when nursery section will also resume, however she warned those who are teaching uncalled classes to stop it.

Meanwhile, Alex Kakooza, the Ministry of Education Permanent Secretary appealed to school heads and proprietors not to increase school fees and also urged them to separate day section students from boarding students by either shifting or alternating as a way of continuing the fight against Covid-19.
