A stone quarry in Mabanga cell in Kagongo division in Ibanda municipality has caved in, killing two people on the spot.
The duo has been identified as Hellen Kusiima, a food vendor and Mike Muhumuza, a resident of the area.
Vitarino Bagiritima, the Mabanga Village LC I Chairperson, says that they got to know about the incident about 6:30 PM on Tuesday when Muhumuza failed to show up in the trading center as usual. Phone calls by his friends to his known number went without response.
He explains that Muhumuza has been working in the stone quarry to earn a living for a long time. He, however, says that the heavy rains must have softened the soils forcing it to cave in.
Robert Tumusiime, the Kagongo Division Internal Security Officer, says that the deceased were killed by the stone debris.
Samson Kasasira, the Rwizi Region Police Spokesperson says that he was still gathering details on the incident.
