Parliament has tasked Kampala Capital City Authority-KCCA to explain the cause of the unpaid wages of the authority’s casual workers.

This is after a section of the labourers stormed Parliament in protest of their unpaid six months arrears by the authority.

While delivering her communication in plenary on Wednesday, Speaker Anita Among tasked KCCA leadership to ensure that the aggrieved labourers are paid, noting that delaying to pay them is contrary to Article 40(1) of the Constitution which provides for equal payment for equal work without discrimination.

The Speaker also guided that the Ministry of Finance should first present a report to parliament whether they have released the recurrent expenditure of KCCA and then hold KCCA liable.

The MPs asked the KCCA officials to explain whether the deterioration could be attributed to the meagre pay of Shs6000 being given to the cleaners daily.

Unfortunately, at the time of the concern, none of the Ministers of KCCA was in parliament and Speaker Among summoned the responsible minister to give a status report on the non-paid wages of KCCA
