The Speaker of Parliament Anita Among has directed Parliament’s Legal Department to investigate the circulating media rumors that legislatures were bribed to block rationalization of certain government agencies.

Speaker Among who sounded bitter, denied any bribe accusations saying MPs deliberated as per their mandate in the interest of Ugandans.

Some of the agencies cited and said to have bribed the MPs in the media reports include; Uganda National Roads Authority (UNRA), National Information and Technology Authority (NIRA), Uganda Coffee Development Authority and Cotton Development Authority.

Speaker Among says Observer News Paper should be sued and act as an example to others who plan to blackmail parliament.

Meanwhile in her communication today in the house, Speaker Among informed MPs that the ministry of finance has already transferred the remaining balance of 500 million shillings meant to go to each district roads maintenance.

The speaker has also asked the members of parliament from the different districts to monitor the usage of the road maintenance funds to make sure that it is utilized well.

Government had pledged 1 billion shillings to every district for road construction and maintenance and first released 500m.
