The speaker of Parliament Anita Among has asked the board of Namboole stadium and the ministry of sports to remove pioneer buses from Namboole Stadium premises to another destination.

Speaker Among found that the pioneer buses were still parked at Namboole despite her earlier directive last week to relocate the buses.

The decision comes after Sports State Minister Peter Ogwang explained that the UPDF Engineering Brigade, the project contractor, faced difficulties finding parking due to the presence of the Pioneer buses.

Furthermore, a recent report by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) also highlighted the lack of parking as a significant issue.

During an inspection of the stadium’s renovation works on Monday, Among emphasized the need to free up the space.

One of the prerequisites for Uganda to host AFCON and CHAD this year is to upgrade the stadium to world status and also remove the parked buses at Namboole.

She further directed the Ministry of Education and Sports to stop leasing out the stadium’s lands for non sports activities.

It’s alleged that Uganda Lands Commission leased the premises where the buses are parked without the consent of the managing board of neither Namboole stadium nor the ministry of Education.

The Speaker also confirmed the release of the remaining 17bn needed for the completion of the stadium’s renovation and urged the contractor, the UPDF engineering brigade, to ensure timely completion of Namboole stadium.
