The Speaker of Parliament Anita Among has on Tuesday afternoon announced Nakawa West Member of Parliament Joel Ssenyonyi has the new Leader of Opposition.

This has been declared during the Speaker’s communication as she opened the plenary on Tuesday where she congratulated Ssenyonyi upon his new appointment.

The Speaker asked Ssenyonyi to always consult with the Office of the Speaker and also reminded him that the office he is taking up requires more of intellectualism and not flexing.

She also thanked the outgoing Leader of Opposition Mathias Mpuuga who has been in the position for the past two and half years for the great work he has done.

Meanwhile, in the same session the newly reappointed Chief Opposition Whip John Baptist Nambeshe, the Manjiya County MP nominated Mathias Mpuuga as a Commissioner of Parliament which was seconded by the opposition side.

Meanwhile, the NRM side has maintained all Commissioners as read by the Government Chief Whip Denis Hamson Obua and these include; Solomon Silwany MP Bukooli County, Prossy Mbabazi Akampulira the District Woman MP Rubanda and Esther Afoyochan the Zombo District Woman MP.

Ssenyonyi, who also serves as the Nakawa West MP, took over the position of Leader of Opposition from Mathias Mpuuga. Mpuuga, now a commissioner of Parliament, held the position for tenure of 2 years, 6 months, and 26 days.
