Government says criminality can only be curbed through the deployment and implementation of the Intelligent Transport Monitoring System (ITMS).

This has been disclosed by the Minister for ICT and National Guidance, Dr. Chris Baryomunsi at the Uganda Media Center in Kampala while referring to last week’s attack on Pastor Aloysius Bugingo which left his bodyguard Richard Muhumuza dead.

According to Baryomunsi, he engaged with Pastor Bugingo and in their conversation the victim explained that he tried to follow up on the attacker but eventually failed.

Baryomunsi says that if all motorcycles in Uganda had already acquired number plates with tracking devices, the attacker would easily be arrested.

This comes as the Government is fast tracking plans to issue new digital licence plates for all non government vehicles from February 1st 2024; with new vehicles and motorcycle owners required to pay 714,000shs while those exchanging existing plates with motorists seeking the new ones required paying 150,000 for motor vehicles and 50,000 for motorcycles.
