The Opposition in parliament has asked the government to devise all means to conduct elections for Local Council One and Two in the country.

While addressing journalists at parliament, the Shadow Minister of Local Government and Wakiso district woman MP Ethel Naluyima accompanied by other MPS like Mawogola South’s Gorret Namuga, Luwero District Woman representative Brenda Nabukenya and others says the government should urgently consider a supplementary budget.

The term for local council one and local council two administrative units expired on Tuesday 10th this month.

But last week, the minister for local government Raphael Magyezi told parliament that the government did not have the 59 billion shillings needed to organize the elections.

Additionally, the opposition has also given the government a notice of one-month period to organize and conduct the elections and failure to deliver; they will call on Ugandans to rise and demand for elections.

This week, Local government leaders expressed disappointment at the government’s inability to organize local council elections.
