The Anti corruption court on Thursday charged and remanded Charles Malinde, a senior assistant engineering officer.

 

Malinde has been charged with five counts which include causing financial loss, three counts of embezzlement and false accounting by a public officer which he denied.

 

According to state Nicholas Kawooya, the investigations are done and a date for hearing should be fixed.

 

The matter has been adjourned to 23rd May 2022 for bail application by grade one magistrate Moses Nabende.

 

Prosecution alleges that between the months of November 2021 and April 2022 in Tororo Municipality in Tororo district while assigned as a force account manager and project manager for construction of Kagera bridge in Tororo Municipality during the financial year 2021/2022 Charles omitted to exercise his responsibilities as force account and project manager over the Kagera bridge works knowing that such omission would cause financial loss of 16.5mto Tororo municipal council.

 

It further alleges that in the month of November 2021 in Tororo Municipality in the Tororo district while employed by the Tororo Municipality as a senior assistant engineering officer Charles  stole 24 pieces of 900mm concrete culverts worth six million the property of Tororo municipal council to which he had access by virtue of his office.
