Security has been beefed up at Namugongo and Kyaliwajjala area in Wakiso district ahead of the Uganda Martyrs Day Celebrations slated this Friday, June 3rd.

Fred Enanga, the Police Spokesperson in a weekly press briefing at Naguru has told the journalists that they have profiled all venues for pilgrimage, hotels in the area and others eating places to tighten security as a counter measure of any slight terror threat that could happen.

This year, the popular religious pilgrimage in Namugongo will be celebrated following the full reopening of the economy after years of the country’s lockdown due to Covid-19.

Enanga says that though there are no terror threats registered in the country ahead of the Martyrs day celebrations, tactical plans have been laid down to ensure safety for pilgrims with security balloons, drone cameras and other investigative gadgets being deployed for surveillances in the area.

He further says that as a security measure, pilgrims have been restricted from accessing the celebration venues with dangerous items like ammunition, metallic containers, flasks, glasses, animals, balloons, bicycles, cameras, drones and animals among others.

Meanwhile, Pilgrims have been urged to be on lookout and vigilant to the strangers as well as avoiding taking risks of taking long hours without drinking or eating while walking.
