A total of 1,433 candidates who sat Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE) have been ordered to repeat Senior Six by the Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) after failing to obtain any principle pass in last year’s Senior six examinations.

These are part of a total of 103,301 candidates who sat for the exams and at least 101,868 students managed were able to obtain a principal pass in the UACE examinations released this morning.

According to the results, a total of 38,737 obtained three principle passes, 26,986 have obtained two principle passes and 23,327 have obtained one principle pass while a total of 12,828 have obtained a subsidiary giving a 98.6% of candidates eligible to join University and other tertiary institutions.

However results of 126 candidates from 26 examination centers have been withheld for further investigations over examination malpractice.

According to Daniel Odongo the UNEB executive secretary Female students have performed better than males especially in the Arts at both principal and subsidiary levels although their numbers in science subjects remain low giving a chance to the males to surpass them.

History, Christian Religious Education, Literature in English and Mathematics have been performed better while Biology, Economics Entrepreneurship Geography and Chemistry were poorly done even thought the overall performance for the year 2019 was better than 2018.

Biology was however fairly done compared to the previous years although at the overall level the subject and entire sciences remain a big concern because it attracts low number of entrants as well as performance.

The Chairman UNEB Prof. Mary Okwakol said the examinations was malpractice free based on the tight measures employed and use of ICT technology in data capture at the marking and entry of results that reduced human errors improving on the efficiency and effectiveness of examination management that left them scooping the NITA-U excellence award as a government agency in the usage of ICT

Okwakol also said registration fees for examinations for the year 2020 have remained the same; Shs34, 000 for PLE, Shs164, 000 for UCE and Shs186, 000 for UACE.
