The Archbishop of the Church of Uganda Dr. Stephen Kazimba Mugalu has warned that the persistent increase of commodity prices is the cause of gruesome murders in Kampala Metropolitan by panga wielding men.

This Monday, police indicated that over 170 people suspected to be part of the gang of machete assailants were arrested in the parts of Namungoona, Kyengera and Nabbingo among others over hacking several residents in different homes in the wee hours last week.

Delivering his Easter Message at his palace in Namirembe, Dr. Kazimba says that the increased commodities prices is the major contributor to machete assailants since they do it to rob money and other valuable items they can sell to get a living. To the challenge the government should consider solving it urgently as they hunt for criminals.

He condemns the acts of killing Ugandans and also warned the parents to protect their children that are off for holidays in order to avoid registering cases of defilement and early pregnancies just like it was reported during the lockdown.

The Archbishop further encourages the families to ensure domestic violence is avoided and also appeals to Ugandans to continue praying for the ending of Russian -Ukrainian war in Europe for the displaced Ukrainians to retain their peace.
