The Executive Director of Kampala Capital City Authority Dorothy Kisaka has appealed to building owners within the City to return hand washing equipment outside their buildings as one of the ways to promote hygiene.

Kisaka says that many landlords have relaxed and no longer care about their clients’ safety yet poor hygiene is one of the major causes of infections.

She made the appeal at Kiswa Health Centre IV during the commemoration of the World Hand Hygiene day marked under the theme; Accelerate action together.

She adds that the authority has tried to reinstate these equipments in public places such as parks, hospitals and markets and want markets in all the five divisions of Kampala to do the same.

The director of public health at KCCA Dr. Daniel Okello revealed that the authority spends 5 US dollars per person to promote hygiene which expenditure could be saved if whoever enters the city embraced good hygiene.

The 2020 UNICEF report about hygiene indicates that in Uganda 23,000 people die because of Diarrhea and out of these 19,700 are children below 5yrs of age.
