The Archbishop of Kampala Paul Ssemogerere has expressed his concern over the continued abandonment and neglecting of children in an era of educated people.

Archbishop Ssemogerere says it’s shameful for this era of educated people to find a number of neglected, abandoned and abused children growing each day, a problem which contributes to a failing generation.

This was during the mass to commemorate the day of St Joseph the Worker organized by the Child Welfare and Adoption Society (CWAS) at Nsambya Babies Home in Makindye division.

He however commended CWAS administration and staff for overseeing all activities of caring for the neglected children and orphans conducted in all the three encompassed homes including Nsambya Babies Home, Kankobe Children’s Home and Nateete Family Group.

His Grace Ssemogerere who is the Patron of CWAS however advised parents to take up their responsibilities of taking care of their children by emulating Saint Joseph, a father who cared for his family that included Mary, Jesus and James.

In her remarks at the event, the Director CWAS, Sr. Maria Sarah Nnaamala noted that they have rescued, admitted and nurtured more than 10,000 abandoned, neglected and orphan children since the establishment of this organization.

She says that they have also managed to register other achievements like establishing several projects for self sustenance though they still need more support in terms of food, closings, funds and medical assortments from the public, government and private organizations.

The Child Welfare Adoption Society was established in 1958 by a missionary priest to coordinate the social work activities in Catholic child care institutions in different areas of Uganda where he started collecting abandoned children in the hospitals and on the streets.
