Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) want government to investigate and bring to book security officers who tortured students with Disabilities during the recent Makerere Students demonstration over the 15% fees increment in order to prevent future occurrence of such violation of human rights.

Through their Umbrella National Union of Disabled Persons of Uganda (NUDIPU) in conjunction with East Africa Center for Disability Law and Policy (CDLP) and Uganda Media Women’s Association (UMWA) John Chris Ninsiima the Acting Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of NUDIPU told the press that they demand for justice for all the brutalized PWDs at Makerere university.

Ninsiima says government must make sure that security agencies develop inclusive guidelines on how to handle students with disabilities in both public and private universities during evacuation in case of emergencies.

He has pointed out James Ssebidde a student with physical disability who was reported brutalized by security officers in his room in Lumumba hall.
