Uganda Episcopal Conference condemns brutal acts by security agencies on citizens.

The Catholic Bishop of Uganda have condemned the brutality of security agencies on the citizens of Uganda as exhibited in the recent demonstrations.

The letter signed by the chairman Uganda Episcopal Conference Bishop Joseph Anthony Zziwa on behalf of other Bishops who have just completed their November plenary that started on November 4^th to 8^th 2019 at St. Augustine Institute Nsambya, their lordships and graces, highlighted the recent Makerere university demonstrations, over tuition hiking that embroiled journalists who were covering the demonstration and the attack on opposition leaders by the Police and Military that it was uncalled for.

They say security agencies should be mindful of article 24 and 44(a) of the constitution calls on Ugandans including security agents to respect human dignity and the same constitution guarantees the right to protection from inhuman and degrading treatment prohibiting from any form of cruelty and and torture.

The Bishops appreciate the fact that parliament and other government agencies condemned the abuse of power adding that violence is never a solution to solving problems neither promotes peace and harmony.

The Bishops have appealed for dialogue and always listen to people’s grievances but all communities, individual and institutions must respect rule of law and endovour to seek peaceful means of solving problems.
