Prison authorities have exempted judges and lawyers to visit and interact with prisoners in the recently issued Standard Operating Procedures aimed at curbing the spread of the Ebola Virus Disease.

This follows the suspension of all visitations at their facilities and conducting community work in the districts where Ebola outbreak and alerts were confirmed in areas of Kampala, Mukono, Wakiso, Kassanda and Mubende.

While addressing the media at the Police headquarters at Naguru, the Prisons Spokesperson Frank Baine said only advocates and lawyers will be cleared to visit prison centers to meet their clients so that they can access justice.

Baine also noted that all Prison Warders have been ordered to only conduct referrals of sick inmates to Murchison Bay in Luzira but not to other public hospitals to avoid the spread of Ebola.

Meanwhile, Baine has revealed that they have established an isolation center at Luzira Murchison Bay where all inmates from Kampala will be admitted and also act as an isolation center for Ebola patients.
