The Commissioner General of Prisons Dr Johnson Byabashaija has directed for the relaxation of Standby Class one restriction, which is a visitation ban to inmates across the country.

In November last year, the Uganda Prisons Services banned visits to inmates in five districts of Mubende, Kassanda, Kampala, Wakiso and Mukono following the outbreak of Ebola epidemic which also went through the festive season.

Now, in a statement released by the Prisons Spokesperson Frank Baine today, Dr Byabashaija has directed normal visitation of prisoners to be allowed and raw food items in all Prison Units be accepted.

Baine says that restrictions have stayed in Kitalya Min-Maximum Prison and Upper Prison Luzira which are maximum security prisons where there are institution canteens that provide food stuff to prisoners.

He further says that during visitations, prison rules and regulations will have to be adhered to and other Standby Class One restrictions will still stand until 5th of February 2023.
