President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has cautioned the people of Bugweri district in the Busoga sub region and the country at large over the need to rationally use resources in their area.

 

He made the remarks during the commemoration of the 43rd Tarehe Sita celebrations at the Bugweri district headquarters.

 

The Tarehe Sita celebration is held on every 6th day of February in commemoration of the start of the National Resistance Army (NRA) liberation war on this very day at the Kabamba Barracks on Mubende district with today’s celebrations held under the theme: “Celebrating People’s Struggle for Unity, Security and Peace”.

 

The President has revealed that he has moved around touring areas of Bugweri district and discovered that swamps have been destroyed in the name of farming adding that swamps and wetlands have to be reserved because they are stores of water and water is needed for irrigation of farm land.

 

At the same function, the Chief of Defense Forces, Gen. Wilson Mbadi has commended the Government for its financial support towards the UPDF activities carried out towards this day.

 

Gen. Mbadi adds that these activities which include; general cleaning exercises, hosting of medical camps among others; have helped to sustain the socio-economic transformation of the country and also bridges the gap between the army and the civilian population.

 

He has appreciated President Museveni for building a well disciplined and efficient army which has sacrificed a lot for the country.

 

On the other hand, the Minister of Defense and Veteran Affairs, Vincent Bamulangaki Ssempijja has asked the President to intervene in the issue of land grabbing in the Busoga sub region.

 

According to Ssempijja, people of Busoga have reported that they have suffered with land grabbers for a long time, hence asking Government to intervene and save them.

 

Today’s celebration climaxed with the presentation of medals to 61 persons for their great service to the nation.
