President Yoweri Museveni is in for the scientific elections and sealed a plan to distribute radio sets to all Ugandans for its success.

In his 15th address about the deadly pandemic COVID-19 at State house Nakasero on June 22nd 2020 Museveni  said since Uganda is striving to save live; not to live for convenience but for survival” see that Ugandans remain alive despite the pandemic that is rising every the other day.

He said to avoid contact, crowds and spread of Coronavirus infection, the released 2020/21 scientific election is the way to go after the Electoral Commission presenting to him three choices;

  1. The possibility of safely holding conventional elections of mass rallies and processions even in the absence of a vaccine or clear treatment for the virus.
  2. Postponing the election until the pandemic is over
  3. Holding a scientific election that limits contacts that is why radio and Tv plus other social platforms can do better.

When the Electoral Commission issued a revised roadmap on June 16th 2020, where they banned mass rallies in favour of candidates using the media for campaigning, it generated immediate opposition from other political players like People Power, Forum for Democratic Change, Democratic Party, the Alliance for National Transformation and Justice Forum but the NRM says they are okay with it since its premised on the advise of the scientists.

The opposition contends that the Electoral Commission should organize a normal election or postponed it. Kyaddondo East MP Robert Kyagulanyi  of the People Power Movement says he is ready to participate in conventional elections at all costs.

The spokesperson for FDC Ibrahim Ssemujju Nganda says they are not ready to respect the scientific election when other countries like Bulundi and Malawi have held elections as it should be and remained safe why not Uganda.

Kyagulanyi accused the president of hiding under the COVID-19 cover to block the opposition from interacting with the masses, in the absence of the Public Order Management Act.
