Pope Francis has appointed Rev. Fr. Raphael p’Mony Wokorach, a Comboni missionary priest as the new Bishop of Nebbi Catholic diocese.

Nebbi diocese was vacant after the appointment of Rt. Rev. Sanctus Lino Wanok as Bishop of the Diocese of Lira in November 2018 and since then the diocese has been under a care taker the diocesan administrator Msgr. Emmanuel Odaga.

In a statement released by the Apostolic Nuncio to Uganda, Archbishop Luigi Bianco but read to the public at exactly 1pm east African standard time through Radio Sapientia by the Secretary General Uganda Episcopal Conference Msgr. John Baptist Kauta congratulated the new bishop of upon this achievement and thanked Rev. Msgr. Emmanuel Odaga for his generous service as Diocesan Administrator.

The 60 year old new bishop was born in January 1961 in Arua district and took his first religious profession in April 1989, perpetual vows in October 1992 and ordained a priest in September 1993.

He served in Kisangani Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) as a curate in a parish for a couple of years and later a Formator in the Postulancy for candidates to the priesthood. He later went to Lome in Togo, Chicago in USA, Nairobi in Kenya then later in Tanzania before returning to Uganda.
