Police at Parliament under the directive of the Clerk to Parliament have retrieved from Mityana Municipality MP Francis Zaake’s residence, a Government vehicle, Reg. Number UG 0333H belongs to the Parliamentary Commission.

This follows Zaake’s refusal to return the car formally given to him while still serving as a Parliamentary Commissioner.

According to the statement issued by the Director of Communications at Parliament, Chris Obore this was after the Clerk to Parliament Adolf Mwesige’s directive to police to withdraw the vehicle from Zaake.

On several occasions, Mwesigye has been advising Zaake to follow the guidelines governing the management of Government properties and return the car which he declined according to Obore.

This then forced the Police to seize Zaake’s home and withdraw the car back to the Parliament’s parking lot.

In March, 155 legislators voted to remove Zaake from the Parliamentary Commission over accusations of disparaging then Deputy Speaker, Ms Anita Among. Ms Among has since replaced the late Jacob Oulanyah as the House Speaker.

After two weeks of investigation, the Committee on Rules, Privileges, and Discipline had recommended that Zaake apologize to the House.

It held that the conduct of the National Unity Platform (NUP) party legislator was not proper and that it amounted to misbehavior and misconduct.

This recommendation was, however, reviewed for a censure motion that was overwhelmingly adopted by the House.

Zaake later petitioned the Constitutional Court, seeking to among others overturn his removal from the position.
