Police have refuted allegations of injuring some National Unity Platform (NUP) party leaders and supporters including the Kampala Lord Mayor hopeful Joseph Mayanja alias Dr. Jose Chameleon.

This comes after earlier reports that Chameleon has been shot in the leg with a rubber bullet while police was dispersing his supporters with teargas for defying COVID-19 guidelines and failure to observe the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) as he was opening his campaign offices around Balintuma Road in Lubaga Division in Kampala.

The Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson Patrick Onyango says that Police didn’t use any rubble bullets during the operation and there were no injuries reported.

Onyango further confirms that two suspects have been arrested and they are being detained at Old Kampala Police Station on charges of disobedience of lawful orders.
