Police have explained the motive behind the ongoing eviction operation against all illegal residents and other occupants on its Kireka barracks land in Kampala.

The process began this month with Ntinda- Naguru and Nsambya barracks and has drawn criticism from members of the public and some political leaders.

Representing the Police Spokesperson Fred Enanga who is on the leave, his office Care Taker, SCP Hadijah Namutebi says this operation is conducted after discovering that many civilians and private security personal have occupied the barracks, using utilities like electricity and water that which inflates and increases the police bills.

She says that the exercise is being misinterpreted by the local leaders that it is intended to evict people from their land which is not true, adding that they are conducting a comprehensive audit of barracks land to ensure that any removal of individuals strictly adheres to legal procedures.

Namutebi clarifies that civilians occupy these Police barracks by officers who delay to report to their transferred destinations, retired officers who remain with strong attachment to police and those deserters.
