The Uganda National Roads Authority (UNRA) and the contractor of Kampala Flyover Construction and Road Upgrading Project (KFCRUP) are closing sections of the clock-tower section where the first flyover in Kampala City is under construction.

Starting today 17th January 2023 temporary road diversions for all motorists using Entebbe road, Ggaba road or Nsambya road will experience a two months interruption to ease the ongoing construction activities of the Kampala Flyover.

Motorists using the Entebbe Road section between Shell Clock Tower junction and Nakasero Mosque will use the improved section near railway good shed to access Queensway.

Those using queen’s way will also use the left side of the road to allow constructions on the right hand side of the same road around the clock tower hydro power substation.

Sikh Road will be used by vehicles from the city centre towards Clock Tower junction still on the side of good shed.

Traffic flow from the city centre will not be affected by these changes and will proceed through the area normally but there will be controlled traffic flow to and from the city centre and as well from Ggaba side according to Charles Ogwang the safety manager on the road.

Ogwang says to avoid congestion during this period, all motorists from Kibuye roundabout are advised to access the city centre through roads such as Lubiri Ring Road, Rubaga Road and other connecting roads.

Motorists from Gaba Road are advised to use Mukwano Road while those from Usafi roundabout and Mengo Hill can access the city centre through Ben Kiwanuka Street and any other connecting roads.

According to UNRA’s announcement, motorists are advised to avoid Clock Tower junction whenever possible to avoid inconveniences.

This is Uganda’s first-ever flyover costing USD 80 million, stretching 3.5 kilometers within the city center. The works by the Japanese International Corporation commenced in 2018 and were expected to be completed in December last year.

The project is in a three phased manner after the clock tower area, they will proceed to Kitgum area near the former electoral commission headquarters then through to the Jinja road at the ministry of foreign affairs.
