Police in Kira Municipality, Wakiso district is holding a 21 year old John Regan Ngobi over allegations of burning three churches including a Catholic and two Pentecostals in Kasokoso yesterday.

 

According to police, the Kasokoso Village chairman Ali Mwanda reported to the area police post about the burnt three churches by then unknown person.

 

The burnt Churches include, St. Noah Catholic Church Kasokoso Sub Parish in Kireka Parish that is led by Rev. Fr. Mathias Mulumba Kalemba, Liberty Church of Christ International for pentcostals under the leadership of Pastor Vincent Bageya and God’s Tour Promising Church of Pastor Odinga Kadika Nandere.

 

The Kampala Metropolitan Deputy Police Spokesperson Luke Owoyesigyire says that items like church clothes for Fr. Kalemba, church books, alter wine, curtains and plastic chairs all valued at 1.5mshs were put on fire with intent to burn the whole church but it didn’t spread further.

 

He says that the culprit reported himself to Kira division police armed with three brand new knives claiming that he burnt the churches because of anger arising from the churches’ preaching of prosperity yet he has remained poor.
