Parliament has held a special sitting to pay tribute to the fallen governor, Bank of Uganda, Prof. Emmanuel Tumusiime Mutebile who succumbed to diabetic related illness on Sunday.

The sitting chaired by the Deputy Speaker of Parliament Annet Anita Among Parliament has passed a motion for government to undertake all necessary welfare of the family of Former late Prof Emmanuel Mutebile.

The motion has been moved by Hon Medard Ssegona and supported by the whole house of parliament.

Different mourners have appreciated and praised late Prof. Mutebile for upholding and revamping the economy of Uganda since 1980s.

 

The Motion to pay tribute to Prof Mutebile has been moved by the Rt. Hon Prime Minister Robinna Nabanjja and seconded by LoP Mathias Mpuuga and later supported by parliament.

 

However the body of late Prof Mutebile has not been brought in parliament due to unknown reasons but respect has been paid to his portrait.

Mutebile died in Nairobi, Kenya, where he had been receiving medical attention according to the Deputy Governor Micheal Atingi-Ego who also announced Mutebile’s death on Sunday January 23rd 2022 from a Hospital in Nairobi where he had been admitted since December 31, 2021, after he collapsed due to complications related to diabetes.

Mutebile, died on service after the 11th Parliament vetted him for another term in office in June 2021 following 20 years at the helm of the Central Bank since 2001.

He was born January 27, 1949, educated at Makerere University, Durham University, and Oxford University. Mutebile passes away at the age of 72.

The information minister Dr. Chris Baryomunsi says tomorrow Friday January 28, there will be a special funeral service at Kololo ceremonial grounds and President Museveni will be the chief mourner.

On Sunday January 30, burial ceremonies will begin at Rugarama Cathedral before the being buried at his home in Omuruhita on the Kabale- Kisoro road.

Authorities of the Northern Division in Kabale Municipality yesterday started the rehabilitation of Mutebile road ahead of the burial of Emmanuel Tumusiime Mutebile.

The 1.5-kilometer road that branches from Kabale-Kisoro road in Kijuguta is being graded and its said to have been in a sorry state with a lot of pot holes and dust.

Isaac Musinguzi Rushoga, Nothern Division, LC3 Chairman has confirmed that they acquired the equipment from the district works department to rehabilitate the road in as an emergency.
