The opposition National Unity Platform (NUP) has told police to desist interrupting their forthcoming nationwide tour aimed at strengthening party structures starting at the grass root level.

This has been revealed by the Party President Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu during a press conference at party headquarters in Kamwokya.

He says that they have already notified the police about this activity which kicks off next week on Monday 28th/August/2023 in Mbarara where they will meet the party leadership, open up NUP offices at Makhan Singh street before addressing party members at Global High school playground.

According to Kyagulanyi, the laws of Uganda allow any registered party to carry out its internal activities without any interference from the security organizations.

He cites the First Son, General Muhoozi Kainerugaba that is traversing the country for his political ambitions without any interruption or arrests but fully guarded by the security personnel yet he is still a serving army officer.

Kyagulanyi says they are to move in two phases with the first part of the tour being in Mbarara, Kasese, Arua, Lira, Soroti, Mayuge, Busia, Mayuge, Fort-portal, Luwero, Gulu and Mbale where they will be opening up party offices and engage with leaders and members for NUP promotion.

Meanwhile, Kyagulanyi has revealed that the party has seconded Moses Aguuda to contest on the party ticket for the forthcoming Hoima district LC5 by-election.
