Cattle keepers in Ntoroko district are seeking government intervention over the persistent floods in the district.

Renewed floods hit the district after River Semliki burst its banks leaving over 600 people from more than 10 villages homeless.  The affected areas are Budiba, Masojo, Kyobe, Masaka, Karugaju, Kayanja 2 and 3and Rukora.

The cattle keepers and leaders are concerned that the floods continue to submerge their farms and cattle keeping, which is the major economic activity in the district, is under threat.

They want the government to allocate them part of the Tooro-Semuliki Wildlife Reserve for temporary settlement and grazing of their animals.

Patrick Businge, the Ntoroko District Production Officer says from past experience, the government should support the district and put up a holding ground where farmers can keep their animals until the water subdues.

William Kasoro, the LCV Chairperson says farmers who rush to sell their animals before they starve to death are given little money thus impacting their families.
