A caucus meeting of Members of Parliament affiliated with the ruling National Resistance Movement- NRM party has maintained the incumbent members to contest in the forthcoming East African Legislative Assembly –EALA.

 

This was from the caucus sitting at Kololo Independence Ground on Friday after having received and considered the resolutions of the NRM Central Executive Committee –CEC made on July 8th, 2022.

 

The endorsed names of the incumbent EALA members to the NRM Parliamentary Caucus as party candidates for the position of members of the regional parliament include Rose Okullu Akol, James Kakooza, Mary Mugyenyi, Paul Mwasa Musamali, Dennis Namara, and George Stephen Odongo.

 

According to the statement signed by NRM Secretary General Richard Todwong, the EALA members have been maintained in recognition of their exceptional performance to continue their tenure for another term.

 

The elections are slated for September 29 this year ahead of the expiry of the current EALA MP’s term in December.

 

Before the MPs were first tested for Covid-19 and only those with a negative result were allowed access.

 

The meeting has been chaired by the NRM party Chairperson; President Yoweri Museveni.

 

Earlier, the NRM party ring-fenced six positions out of the nine slots that Uganda has in the regional assembly.
