The ruling National Resistance Movement –NRM has allocated over Shs1.2 billion to organize its women council and committee primary elections in all villages across the country.

In June 2022, the national Electoral Commission –EC suspended the program for women council and committee elections due to lack of funds amounting to Shs35.6 billion for organizing the polls .

Dr. Tanga Odoi, the NRM Electoral Commission Chairman while addressing journalists on Wednesday at the commission’s headquarters along Kyadondo road in Kampala said their program wasn’t affected by the changes from the National Electoral Commission.

Tanga says they have set July 14, 2022 as a polling date for the positions of Chairperson, Vice Chairperson, General Secretary, and Secretary for Publicity and Secretary for Finance at each village.

On July 15, according to the program, the party will be resolving the conflicts if any at parishes or villages while from July 16th-20th will be for endorsement of NRM flag bearers at Sub-county and the elected candidates will be presented to the national EC for nomination once the national exercise is resumed.

Dr. Tanga has revealed that they have availed a register to each village to capture details of all NRM women voters to avoid chaos on the polling day and also limit the exercises to only those in the voters’ register.

Meanwhile, Dr. Tanga has warned leaders of opposition parties over blackmailing the NRM party by linking them into being in connivance with the national EC to suspend women elections because NRM was not organized.
