Parliament has merged the National Bureau for Non Governmental Organization (NGO Bureau) to the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

This was after the State Minister for Internal Affairs Gen David Muhoozi moved and tabled the NGO Amendment Bill 2024 before parliament for consideration.

The bill sought to streamline the operations of the NGO Bureau under the Ministry of Internal Affairs for effective and efficient operations and coordination of administration duties.

Now upon the assenting of the bill by President Museveni, all duties of the NGO Bureau will be transferred to the Ministry of Internal Affairs under a department

Meanwhile, parliament has also passed the National Library Amendment Bill 2024 which will see all the duties of the National Library be streamlined under the Ministry of Education and Sports being that they are similar.

The bill was tabled by the State Minister for Higher Education Dr. John Chrysostom Muyingo justifying that this will ease policy, administration, and Coordination of duties.

In 2015, Parliament passed the Non-Governmental Organizations Act despite fierce opposition from several civil society groups which claimed that the bill would severely limit the activities of NGOs inside the country.

In February 2024, the Government introduced nine Bills before Parliament with the aim to legalize provisions to rationalize agencies in different sectors of the economy.
