The incoming Makerere Vice Chancellor Prof. Barnabas Nawangwe has told the university Police to improve security or be shown the exit.

Professor Nawangwe takes over as vice chancellor in September after the expiry of the term of office of Prof John Ddumba-Ssentamu.

In his current capacity as the Deputy Vice Chancellor in charge of Finance and Administration, Nawangwe on July 25 wrote to Jackson Mucunguzi, the Chief Security Officer, listing five key issues which he asked police to urgently address.

Key among the issues raised was the boda boda cyclists who continue to enter the university yet they are banned from going beyond the gates.

Nawangwe also wants police to enforce fines on motorists parking in side-walk-ways.

The university management last year passed a fine of 100,000 shillings for vehicles found parked on pavements.

The officer in charge Makerere University Police ASP Denis Nyanzi Kasibante, says that following the instruction by Prof. Nawangwe, the university police station has increased on its operations especially at night to ensure safety and security of lives and property.
