The opposition National Economic Empowerment Dialogue (NEED) party has lashed out at Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) for only targeting market charge collections without renovating them to the required standards.

This was during the general cleaning exercise mobilizing vendors to donate blood at Kalerwe Market in Kawempe division on Thursday.

During the exercise, the NEED party Spokesperson Moses Matovu told the Journalists that President Museveni directed KCCA to take charge of all markets in Kampala which means it is also responsible for the markets welfare that is not fulfilled.

Matovu pointed out Kalerwe Market among others which are too congested with no customer pass ways and garbage tins yet the vendors are charged for all these services including the stalls.

Meanwhile, Charles Zziwa the Vice Chairman of Trade Order at Kalerwe Market has urged the government to provide free garbage trucks to markets such that vendors can pay little money to collect their garbage to improve sanitation.
