Uganda National Basketball League (NBL) has said the 2020 basketball season will commence next week, despite the Coronavirus pandemic.

The Federation of International Basketball Association (FIBA) has suspended all basketball games, while the National Basketball Association (NBA) in North America has also suspended all games after Rudy Gobert, a player for Utah Jazz tested positive for corona virus that has affected 126,000 people worldwide, while 4,600 people have died.

The President of the Federation of Uganda Basketball Association (FUBA) Nasser Serunjogi says that although Uganda is under FIBA, the local league is not controlled by FIBA.

According to Serunjogi, the league which is meant to start on Friday 20th March at the YMCA arena in Wandegeya will go on, unless there is a corona virus case in Uganda.

He says that for now, as FUBA, they will take precautionary measures include having hand washing facilities and sanitizers in all games as guided by the Ministry of Health.

Uganda Christian University (UCU) Lady Canons will face off with Kampala International University (KIU) Rangers and defending champions City Oilers will battle with Just Kip Living (JKL) Dolphins.
