Following President Museveni’s State of the Nation Address at Kololo, which emphasized on fighting corruption, Members of Parliament have rallied behind the censure motion against Parliament Commissioners and former Leader of Opposition Mathias Mpuuga.

The Mukono Municipality MP Betty Nambooze and Yona Musinguzi of Ntungamo Municipality are the latest to sign the censure motion, initiated by Lwemiyaga County MP Theodore Ssekikubo.

The motion aims to hold the commissioners accountable for awarding themselves a controversial 1.7 billion shillings service award.

Nambooze explained that her delayed signature was due to consultations with legal experts and her constituents.

Nambooze has been known to be a close friend to Mpuuga and they are both former members of the Democratic Party (DP).

Musinguzi viewed the censure motion as an opportunity for MPs to demonstrate their commitment to fighting corruption, making it easier to defend their own actions at the local level.

So far 150 MPs have now signed the censure motion out of the required 177 MPs.
